I drink because it’s easier

than talking to you and I don’t have

the energy or gumption to justify my behavior

maybe I’m punishing myself not with hellfire

but with bourbon burning the back of my throat

or perhaps I can for the briefest of moments

lose myself in the bottom of a glass

but if you want a straight answer

I want to avoid you

and when I drink

it’s the only time

you’ll leave me

the fuck alone.
